Here's a few shots of my HO scale model railroad, half of which uses equipment from 30 years ago when I was 10. A few years back, I pulled it all out, purchased some additional nickel silver track, and constructed a layout that runs clear around the perimeter of the basement. It runs along the back of my workbench, under the stairs, past the utility sink, behind the dryer, fridge and stove, cuts through my wife's sewing area, runs behind the water heater, through the bathroom, and finally under the main electrical box. Whew. All on a six inch (on average) ledge with some stretches barely two inches wide. One lap equals 2 scale miles. It's mostly a single track run with four reasonably long sidings. My son, now 5, is really the switching expert. He belts out orders and coordinates activities as I try to operate the throttle.

Workbench run. The right-of-way narrows approaching the back of the workbench.
Bathroom pass. A tight fit through the 'Nature Room' pass. (My wife's name for the basement john.)
Behind the radial saw. Behind the radial saw. This can be a problem area as sawdust collects on the tracks.
Main yard. Main junction.
