quarry is few miles northwest of Lansing airport and
provides a nice landmark.. One memorable moment
over the quarry occured when taking my checkride with an examiner named Bob Lakin, an old
timer that wasn't much into "all this electronic stuff" (remember this is 1986). After I'd demonstrated stalls to his satisfaction, he wanted to drive the point home about an uncoordinated power on stall. Well, he kicked it around with full rudder deflection, initiatiating a spin. After about 3 revolutions, he had me recover, for a very unconventional 45º three mile final into Lansing. We were plenty high, and as I figured he might do, Bob pulled the power back to idle for an engine-out final to a full stop. Man, I think I learned as much in that hour and a half as I did during flight training. |
