In the summer of 1996, I rented 57G for a week and flew up to northern Michigan to join the rest of my family. Empire Airport (y87) became my tiedown and for six consecutive days, I "owned" an aircraft! I planned specific missions that were flown daily.

Sectional Chart featuring the Mackinac Bridge. Sectional chart of the Mackinac Bridge which joins Upper with Lower Michigan and separates Lake Michigan from Lake Huron. I've flown in this area several times and it is truly breathtaking.
Mackinac Bridge approaching from the southeast. Mackinac bridge looking northeast. This picture was taken enroute to Drummond Island with my son, Clark.
Sectional of Drummond Island, MI Drummond Island is the eastern-most point of the U.P. We went to 'peek' into Canada being careful not to stray over the border.
Mackinac Island. Mackinac Island in Lake Huron looking southeast. Distinctive shorelines make 'dead-reckoning' navigation a snap.
Mackinac Bridge viewed from over St. Ignace. St. Ignace, on the north side of the bridge looking southeast. This was taken on our return trip. We ended up stopping for fuel at Pelston which is almost visible in the upper right hand corner.
Charlevoix Airport. Charlevoix Airport on Lake Michigan. A great landmark as we prepare for the six nautical mile hop across Grand Traverse Bay.
