I've been a private pilot since 1986. I started flying lessons in October of 1985 and received my ticket almost to the day a year later. While theoretically you can earn it in a fraction of the time, I was glad to have experienced flight instruction in all four seasons. I currently do not own an airplane but hope to at some point down the line. For now, I rent Cessna 150's and 172's from Associated Air Activities, a friendly FBO based at Lansing Municipal Airport (IGQ). Lansing is a south suburb of Chicago, near the Indiana state line.

If flying interests you, AOPA Online is a great first step. They have all the information you'll need to get started. Remember, learn to fly now before you regret that you never inquired. It's surprisingly accessible, probably at the local airfield you've detoured to in the past. While you're there, get a 30 minute demo flight. They're cheap and sometimes free.
